This Novembers 7, Minneapolis voters will have a special opportunity to improve democracy. An amendment to adopt Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) for municipal elections will be up for approval.

KFNA (Kingfield Neighborhood Association) endorses instant runoff voting in the City of Minneapolis.

This year at the State Fair, the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Progressive Caucus featured an Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) demonstration. People learned about IRV as they voted on their favorite bumper stickers.

Council Votes: Instant Runoff Voting to Appear on Minneapolis Ballot in November

Charter Commission completes review of charter amendment

The Minneapolis Charter Commission met on August 2nd to consider for a second time the Instant Runoff Voting Charter Amendment in order to make a minor correction in the amendment. 

Opponents unsuccessfully attempted to modfiy the amendment to exclude  the independent boards (Park Board, Library Board and Board of Estimate and Taxation) from the proposal. But they outnumbered supporters 8 to 7 in rejecting the charter amendment approved by the City Council on May 26th.
