IRV on Almanac

More media coverage following Tuesday’s IRV forum in Saint Paul sponsored by the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, Hamline University and FairVote Minnesota.

The July 27th Minnesota Almanac program in the "It's their party" segment asked the chairs of the state's  four main political parties about their partys' position on Instant Runoff Voting.

All but the Republican Party Chair, Ron Carey, enthusiastically endorsed Instant Runoff Voting. Brian Melendez (Democratic Party Chair) highlighted the Minneapolis and St Paul DFL party endorsements and general party support for IRV. He spoke to the need for a voting system that ensures winners are supported by a majority of voters and he debunked claims by Ron Carey that there are constitutional concerns about IRV.  Craig Swaggert (Independence Party Chair) and Virgil Sohm (Green Party Chair) both spoke to their party's strong support for Instant Runoff Voting movement.
