St Paul Council Votes 7-0 to put IRV on the Ballot! The Saint Paul City Council voted UNANIMOUSLY on June 24, 2009 to put Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) on the ballot this November. Councilmember Carter, who has lead the effort to forward IRV in the City, shared: "I'm absolutely thrilled that Instant Runoff Voting is finally up to Saint Paul voters to decide. Today's resolution is a very long time coming. It represents the culmination of years of work, but we're not done - there remains much to do to ensure that IRV wins in November. I am proud to play a small part in this movement to enhance the democratic process in our city." Better Ballot Campaign member John Hottinger attended the meeting and praised the council for their action, saying they "did what they were required to do in honoring the will of the voters...We are pleased with the strong, unanimous vote to let the citizens of St. Paul decide if IRV should be used for city elections." The Better Ballot Campaign is now gearing up to launch a city-wide voter education campaign to ensure victory in November. Join the Campaign for better elections in St Paul!
